Utilizing pigged pipeline technology proves
advantageous for the transfer of a diverse range of products. Addressing a
significant challenge in Lube Oil Blending Plants, pigged manifolds seamlessly interconnect
numerous source tanks with various destinations like filling and loading. This
innovative approach enhances efficiency and resolves complexities associated
with managing multiple product transfers within the blending facility.
Pigging Units serve the purpose of cleaning residual products
from pipelines to prevent contamination, and they are strategically engineered
to minimize the number of pipelines within a plant. The key elements of a
pigging unit include the launcher, receiver, and catcher positioned at opposite
ends of the pipe. A valve is incorporated to regulate the compressed air or gas
utilized for propelling the pig, which travels through the pipeline to
eliminate any remaining liquid. The pig can be easily inserted into or extracted
from the catcher for maintenance purposes.
The remaining liquid is gathered at the
end of the pipe and transferred to the residual collection tank. Following
this, the pig is withdrawn and prepared for the subsequent task. The pigging
lines are seamlessly incorporated into the plant automation system and managed
via a PLC. Any lines that are not suitable for pigging must be cleaned manually
in accordance with the guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
Advantages Of Pigged System
1. Decrease in the quantity of lines can
be observed.
2. Enhancement in quality and productivity is achieved.
3. Prevention of base oils and additives from getting mixed, thus avoiding
cross contamination.
4. Decrease in expenses related to cleaning.
5. Minimization of waste is also a benefit.
